If you're thinking about vacationing to Colorado, you should visit the spellbinding area of Telluride. Named one of North America's Top Ten Ski Resorts, Telluride is the perfect vacation spot. However, even if you decide to visit in the summer, there are still plenty of incredible reasons to visit Colorado's dreamland. Exceptional Stays offers locations in both the Town of Telluride and its sister-town, Mountain Village. But how do you choose which area is right for you? The two towns connect via gondola and a free system runs from 7 am to midnight each day. You are never far away from either location-you can have the best of both worlds.
Wondering where to stay in Telluride? Below we've compiled some important information to help you find the perfect place for you and your loved ones. However, there are a few questions you should ask yourself first:
Thanks to the booming mining industry, Telluride was put on the map. In 1887, miners found gold, silver, lead, copper, and other precious metals which made Telluride a very popular location. It prospered quickly-for about eighty years, the town thrived on mining practices.
However, once World War I and II took place, Telluride became a ghost town. This is when people started to take advantage of another Telluride treasure-the snow. By the late 1970s, Telluride reinvented itself into a world-class resort community.
The glorious town of Telluride resides at an elevation of 8,750 feet, adding to the overall splendor of the town. 14,000-foot mountains surround Telluride and provide some of the best snow sport options in Colorado. You'll find glorious waterfalls and enchanting hikes around each corner, making this place feel more like a fairy tale than reality.

In the 1980s, Ron Allred and Jim Wells began working toward their dream-creating a pedestrian-friendly, European-style resort village above Telluride. This area became an official winter sports site for people from all over the globe. At the beginning of its creation, Mountain Village connected to Telluride in every way-in the literal sense, with a gondola, and in an underlying manner as it relied on Telluride for its ruling.
It was supposed to be a town that would help Telluride flourish; however, in 1995, the community recognized that Mountain Village was a world-class resort community in and of itself.
Located 9,450 feet in the air, Mountain Village offers captivating views of the surrounding area. The village is the perfect spot for all things snow-related but encompasses so much more than that. Relax in a hot tub up in the sky or wander the European inspired village center.
