The mountains surrounding the stunning natural paradise of Telluride, Colorado, are alive with the sounds of music and thousands of people having the time of their lives during this popular mountain town's summer festival season. Though true summer is only just beginning, the town has already hosted several popular events in May and early June that include the Telluride WOW Festival, the Telluride Wild West Fest, the Telluride Balloon Festival and the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival. The good news is that there are still plenty of festivities planned for the summer, and these are a few that you might want to be in town for.
Telluride Bluegrass Festival
Some 50,000 people have already arrived in Telluride for this iconic festival that has been a Telluride staple since 1973. It's just about to kick off this Thursday, June 21, and it won't end until the wee hours of Sunday, June 24. More than two dozen performers and bands are scheduled to entertain every day and night of this event, and these include Chris Thile, Emmylou Harris, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Greensky Bluegrass and the Sam Bush Band just to name a few. This is a family friendly event with several special activities set up for children, and it's not too early to start planning for the 2019 Telluride Bluegrass Festival if you miss out on this one.
Telluride Wine Festival
Enthusiastic lovers of fine wines are expected to turn out from all around the world for this exciting festival that has been scheduled for Thursday, June 28, through Sunday, July 1. Numerous wine tastings are offered that feature local wines as well as superb wines from all around the globe. Top chefs will also be in town to showcase their talents with incredible meals paired with the perfect wine, and other events include an elegant outdoor brunch on Main Street, the Celebration of Women luncheon, a hike and outdoor cooking class, a wine and cheese seminar and an outdoor gourmet cooking class. Passes are still available for many of the events associated with this festival.
Telluride RIDE Festival
Come join the thousands of others who are set to rock the mountains at this popular rock and roll festival that has been scheduled for July 14-15. Over a dozen performers and bands are set to provide the entertainment, and these include Sheryl Crow, Grace Potter, Tyler Childers, ZZ Ward and the Dirty Knobs featuring Mike Campbell. Musical performances will be held each day and throughout the nights, and parents are more than welcome to bring their children along to enjoy the concerts as well as the special tent set up with fun activities for the younger attendees. Tickets are still available for this event, so it's not too late to make plans to attend.
Telluride Jazz Festival
Another epic Telluride event, the 45th annual Telluride Jazz Festival has been scheduled for Aug. 3-5. Some two dozen incredible performers and bands are headed to town to provide the entertainment, and you may expect to enjoy music from those that include Irma Thomas, Soul Queen of New Orleans, the McCarthy Trio, the Speakeasy Jazz Quartet, J-Calvin, the Hooligan Brass Band, Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers and many more. In addition to the day concerts and late-night jazz events, you may also enjoy several activities that include a special jazz art walk, morning yoga in the park, an elaborate parade and a historical walk that takes you on a tour of the town while showcasing its old mining town roots. Tickets are still available for the Telluride Jazz Festival, and children age 11 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
Telluride Blues and Brews Festival
Closing out the summer festival season is the 25th annual Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, and it will be held Sept. 14-16. Some 30 acts are scheduled to perform, and these include Pee Wee Hayes, Pat "Mother Blues" Cohen, Scramble Campbell, the Marcus King Band and the California Honeydrops. The grand tasting event is every bit as important as the entertainment, and those in attendance may expect to enjoy a sample of some 170 beers from more than 50 craft breweries. Several other activities run alongside this festival, and these include morning yoga, a stand-up comedy show and several special activities and events for children. A few tickets are still available for this event, but they are selling out fast.
