The Telluride Horror Show

The stunning mountain town of Telluride, Colorado, offers visitors something exceptional during every month of the year, but October is extra special for many wonderful reasons. The leaves are proudly showing their brilliant fall colors, the weather is perfect for many of the area's excellent outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing and horseback riding and it's the only time of the year that you can get in on some truly spectacular and spooky fun. Come Get Your Scare On

When you start feeling that cool crispness in the October air, you know Halloween is on the way. It's time to start feeling spooky and looking out for ghosts, goblins, vampires and other ghoulish creatures to start knocking on your door for a treat. However, you'll want to check out the Telluride Horror Show before Halloween arrives. In its 8th year, this popular event is scheduled to begin on the most appropriate of days on Friday, Oct. 13, and it will run through Sunday, Oct. 15. The majority of the event activities will be held at Telluride's historic Sheridan Opera House, and these are just a few of the things that you may expect to enjoy.

Telluride Horror Film Festival

The biggest draw for this event is the excellent film festival that is devoted to horror, and it's the first of its kind in the entire state of Colorado. You may expect to see some 50 short films and more than 20 feature films in the genres of horror, science fiction, fantasy, thriller, suspense and dark comedy. You'll be treated to an excellent assortment of the best horror films from around the globe as well as some new films that have never been seen before. It's important to note that this event is not meant for young children. Most of the films are Rated R, and adults may use their own discretion when choosing to bring teenagers along for the fun.

Ice Cream Social

Those with a 3-day pass are welcome to come enjoy some free spooky cakes and loads of ice cream. It's a wonderful time to meet and chat with other visitors and many of the directors and filmmakers in attendance.

Pig Roast

Also available to all 3-day pass holders is a free barbecue pig feast. Oak, a popular local barbecue restaurant, provides the pigs and all of the free sides you could want, and there's a cash bar available as well. Oak is well known to offer the best barbecue in the state.

Creepy Campfire Tales

Last year, Joe R. Lansdale showed up to personally read one of his most popular short horror stories, and story time is scheduled for this year as well. This year's author has not yet been announced, but you can plan on being scared as you're seated on benches next to large bonfires. This activity is free and open to anyone who would like to enjoy an evening of scary storytelling.

Horror Trivia Night

If you really know your horror movies, then you'll love horror trivia night. Each 3-day pass holder is welcome to participate in 10 rounds of horror trivia, and you'll have a chance to win some fun prizes. Six players make up a team, and the beer really flows during this exciting evening.

Book Signing

Several of the movies that you'll see during the film screenings began life as a novel. While names haven't been released yet, you'll likely have the opportunity to purchase a book and receive an autograph from at least one of your favorite horror writers. This activity is open to the public.

Closing Party

On the last day of the Telluride Horror Show, a closing party is held at one of the area's popular bars. It usually begins around 10 p.m., and it runs long into the night. This activity is open to all 3-day pass holders.

Available Passes

There are two types of passes available, and they are priced at $75 and $150. The 3-Day Pass is the most popular option, and it's available for $150. This gives you full access to all of the film screenings that you want to see and to all of the special events. The 6-Pack option is $75, and it gives you six advance film tickets. If you want to view more films, then you'll have the option to pay $15 per person at the door if seating is still available.
